Climate change adaptation strategy

This proposal is aimed at investors who are convinced to participate and promote the sustainability of the tropical ecosystem, providing specialized nature-oriented eco-tourism services. Promoting adaptation strategies and development of permaculture projects, biotechnologies, integrated waste management, with the purpose of supporting the operation and installation of eco-technologies, which in addition to providing for the operation of glamping or lodging, as a tourist offer, get involved in environmental education programs focused on the training of technicians and thus be able to replicate the adaptation model in the island community.

Recognize and promote the biocultural heritage that places Cozumel`s biodiversity as the island`s most valuable asset, as well as all the Mesoamerican archaeological remains, particularly the ceremonial center located 2 km from the `Villa Maya` property, the touristic site of San Gervasio.

Investment proposal

8 Hectares (20 acres approx.) of land adjacent to the Private Nature Reserve `Villa Maya` are offered. There are two lots of 4 hectares each.

The objective of developing, if that were the case, projects compatible with the political norms and criteria established by the Territorial Ordering of the Island of Cozumel, as well as, the observance of the criteria and guidelines of the Mexican Standard NMX-AA-157-SCFI-2012, which refers to Tourist Real Estate Developments in the coastal zone of the Yucatan Peninsula and also the sustainability requirements and specifications in ecotourism established by the NMX-AA-133-SCFI-2021 standard.

The lots are located adjacent to the private nature reserve of Villa Maya, southeast of the San Gervasio archaeological site. The property is outside the jurisdiction of the ANPs Protected Natural Areas, both of the State of Q. Roo, and of the federation administered by CONANP.

The option is open to talk and negotiate, and may be: - (1) Adhere to and add to Villa Maya`s operation and development policies or - (2) Develop your own business, for which comprehensive advice is offered in consulting services for the accompaniment and projects management.

Location: Villa Maya is located 2 kilometers southeast of the ceremonial center and archaeological zone of San Gervasio, on the Island of Cozumel.

Below is a summary of Villa Maya`s objectives and actions on which it has focused since 1991, the date on which the reserve was established.

Conservation of natural resources through knowledge and management of wildlife; With the collaboration of reserve personnel in wildlife monitoring projects, as well as with undergraduate, master`s and doctoral students from different universities, who contribute their knowledge derived from field studies and research in the area, Villa Maya is a permanent station for monitoring and studying biodiversity and research in biological sciences, hydrogeology, archaeology, astronomy, anthropology and history.

Environmental Education Programs, in conjunction with educational institutions, civil associations - NGOs and clubs, visits and camps for children, youth and adults are planned and developed with themes on the importance of the jungle and the complexity and interrelationship of the communities of the tropical ecosystem insular.

Nature-oriented tourism, activities and services are offered for national and foreign visitors exploring the jungle through interpretive trails installed in the tropical forest in the reserve and surrounding ntly, low-density ecotourism services are offered, open to the public to conduct diplomas, workshops, courses and personal training, holistic experiences, including activities to emancipate the spirit, educate on environmental sustainability issues and promote the ecological culture of the participants, exploring the tropical forest, mangroves, wetlands, the coastal scrub, beaches and coral ities such as bird watching, hiking, camping, canoeing, cycling, recreational boating such as free diving and SCUBA diving are promoted.

The development of Cultural Tourism in Villa Maya, focuses mainly on promoting the philosophical concept of Mesoamerican Nican Axcan cultures. nican-axcan/

In addition to visiting archaeological sites around the island and promoting the practice of ancient traditions such as the Temazcal / Sweat lodge and other holistic ceremonies and activities.

Eco Lodge Villa Maya, recently the reserve provides the traveler with an alternative in low-density lodging services with 2 remote cabins in the jungle equipped with queen size bed and hammock, with access to community bathroom and shower services, photovoltaic electricity and WiFi connection. Users enjoy a site with low contamination of electromagnetic frequencies, located in the heart of the Island and who also delight the taste of regional Mexican food.
